AHMEDABAD:
About 250 passengers travelling by an Air India (AI) flight from
Ahmedabad to Newark (US) via Mumbai had a harrowing time late on Monday
night as the aircraft developed a technical snag and had to be grounded.
Around 186 passengers left for Mumbai at 3am on Tuesday while 64 others
were accommodated at a hotel near airport.
The passengers' trauma began as soon as they were seated in the flight which was supposed to leave at 9.10pm. "We were kept seated in the aircraft for two hours before being told that flight had some problem," said a passenger.
After the passengers created a ruckus, AI officials arranged for an alternate flight for the passengers at 3am. However those scheduled to fly to Newark had to stay back for a whole day as the flight from Mumbai to Newark left on at its scheduled time on Monday night.
As many as 37 international and 27 domestic passengers were accommodated at a city hotel. The 27 domestic passengers left for Mumbai in the afternoon while the 37 international passengers will took the Ahmedabad- Newark flight on Tuesday night.
The grounded flight was still being repaired on Tuesday as engineers had to be called in from Mumbai.
In the last few months, several Air India flights flying to or from Ahmedabad have suffered technical issues causing them to be grounded. Last month, the Delhi-Ahmedabad flight was diverted to and grounded at Jaipur after its left engine developed technical issues.
